Matar Paneer Recipe

Ingredients:

  • For the Gravy:
  • 200g paneer (cottage cheese), cut into cubes
  • 1 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1-2 green chilies, slit (adjust to taste)
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp oil or ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • Water (as needed)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Gravy:
  • Heat oil or ghee in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  • Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  • Stir in the ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Sauté for a minute until fragrant.
  1. Add Tomatoes and Spices:
  • Add the tomato puree and cook until the oil starts to separate from the mixture.
  • Add turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  1. Add Peas:
  • Add the green peas and mix. Cook for about 5 minutes, adding a little water if necessary to prevent sticking.
  1. Cook Paneer:
  • Gently fold in the paneer cubes. Add water to achieve your desired gravy consistency. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  1. Finish with Garam Masala:
  • Stir in garam masala and cook for another minute. Adjust salt if needed.
  1. Garnish and Serve:
  • Garnish with chopped cilantro. Serve hot with roti, naan, or rice.
