Ingredients

For the Donuts:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or milk with 1/2 tbsp vinegar)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2-3 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients:
In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Combine Mixtures:
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Fill the Pan:
Transfer the batter to a piping bag or a zip-top bag (cut the corner) and pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
  6. Bake:
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  7. Make the Glaze:
In a bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk if needed.
  8. Glaze the Donuts:
Once the donuts are cool, dip the tops into the glaze or drizzle it over them.
  9. Enjoy:
Let the glaze set for a few minutes, then enjoy your delicious chocolate donuts!
