Chicken Momos Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Water (as needed)

For the Filling:

  • 250 grams ground chicken (or finely chopped chicken)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2-3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1-inch piece of ginger (grated)
  • 1-2 green chilies (finely chopped, optional)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (or any cooking oil)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh coriander (chopped, optional)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Dough:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  • Gradually add water, kneading until you have a smooth, soft dough. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 30 minutes.

2. Prepare the Filling:

  • In a bowl, mix the ground chicken, chopped onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, green chilies, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, pepper, and coriander (if using).
  • Mix thoroughly until well combined.

3. Shape the Momos:

  • Divide the dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball).
  • Roll each ball into a thin circle (about 3-4 inches in diameter).
  • Place a small spoonful of filling in the center of each circle.
  • Fold the edges over the filling and pinch them together to seal. You can shape them into pleats if desired.

4. Steam the Momos:

  • Prepare a steamer (you can use a bamboo steamer or a regular steamer).
  • Lightly grease the steaming tray or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  • Place the momos in the steamer, ensuring they don’t touch each other.
  • Steam for about 15-20 minutes until the chicken is cooked and the dough is slightly translucent.

5. Serve:

  • Serve hot with a dipping sauce, like chili sauce or a soy-vinegar mix.
