Matar Paneer Recipe
Ingredients:
- For the Gravy:
- 200g paneer (cottage cheese), cut into cubes
- 1 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)
- 2 large onions, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 1-2 green chilies, slit (adjust to taste)
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp oil or ghee
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
- Water (as needed)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Gravy:
- Heat oil or ghee in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Stir in the ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Sauté for a minute until fragrant.
- Add Tomatoes and Spices:
- Add the tomato puree and cook until the oil starts to separate from the mixture.
- Add turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Add Peas:
- Add the green peas and mix. Cook for about 5 minutes, adding a little water if necessary to prevent sticking.
- Cook Paneer:
- Gently fold in the paneer cubes. Add water to achieve your desired gravy consistency. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Finish with Garam Masala:
- Stir in garam masala and cook for another minute. Adjust salt if needed.
- Garnish and Serve:
- Garnish with chopped cilantro. Serve hot with roti, naan, or rice.
