Prophet Muhammad is a central figure in Islam, regarded as the last prophet in a long line of prophets that includes figures like Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. He was born around 570 CE in Mecca, in present-day Saudi Arabia, into the Quraysh tribe
Early Life
Muhammad was orphaned at a young age and raised by his grandfather and later by his uncle. He became known for his honesty and integrity, earning the nickname “Al-Amin” (the trustworthy). At 25, he married Khadijah, a wealthy widow, and they had several children.
Revelation
At the age of 40, Muhammad began receiving revelations from Allah (God) through the angel Gabriel. These revelations, which continued for about 23 years, form the basis of the Quran, the holy book of Islam. His teachings emphasized monotheism, social justice, and moral rectitude.
Meccan Period
Initially, Muhammad faced significant opposition from the Quraysh leaders, who saw his message as a threat to their power and the traditional polytheistic beliefs. Despite persecution, he gained followers, including some influential figures.
Migration to Medina
In 622 CE, facing increasing hostility, Muhammad and his followers migrated to Medina (known as the Hijra). This event marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar. In Medina, he established a community based on Islamic principles and became a political leader, forging alliances and resolving conflicts.
Return to Mecca
In 630 CE, Muhammad returned to Mecca with a large following and peacefully took control of the city. He cleansed the Kaaba of idols and established it as the central place of worship for Muslims.
Death
Muhammad passed away in 632 CE in Medina. His death marked the beginning of the rapid expansion of Islam beyond Arabia, leading to the establishment of a vast Islamic empire.
Legacy
Muhammad is revered by Muslims as the “Seal of the Prophets.” His teachings and practices, known as the Sunnah, alongside the Quran, form the foundation of Islamic belief and practice. His life is studied and emulated by millions around the world, and he remains a significant figure in global history.
