Ingredients:

  • 1 cup basmati or jasmine rice
  • 2 cups water or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or butter
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables (like carrots, peas, bell peppers, and corn)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (like parsley or cilantro)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the Rice: Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak it for about 20-30 minutes, then drain.
  2. Heat Oil: In a large pot or skillet, heat the oil or butter over medium heat.
  3. Sauté Aromatics: Add the cumin seeds (if using) and let them sizzle for a few seconds. Then add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Add Vegetables: Add the mixed vegetables and sauté for about 5 minutes until they are tender. Stir in the turmeric powder and garam masala (if using). Season with salt and pepper.
